Projects

A bidirectional sync program, built in Rust, that keeps files in sync between an AIX server (over SFTP) and a Git repository. Changes made on either side are automatically picked up and propagated to the other. For more info click here.

This collection provides Ansible modules that interface with the FICS Mortgage Servicer and FICS Mortgage Accountant REST APIs. Each module handles a distinct report or special service operation, authenticating against the API, calling the appropriate endpoint, decoding any base64-encoded document payloads, writing output files to disk, and optionally logging all API interactions. A custom-built RC car and handheld controller built from scratch as a design lab project. Wireless communication is handled peer-to-peer using ESP-NOW over Wi-Fi. The controller reads a dual-axis joystick and two speed-mode switches, sending live packets to the car at 100ms intervals. For more information click here click here.

Ben Eater's 8-bit computer is a well-known educational project that builds a functional CPU from scratch using breadboards and logic chips. This project takes the architecture as a foundation and migrates the programmable components into Verilog HDL, demonstrating how the same low-level concepts — bus arbitration, synchronous resets, and register control signals — map from physical chips to an FPGA fabric. The FPGA sits alongside the physical breadboard, with its output pins wired directly into the bus and control lines of the hardware build. For more information click here.

Leadership/Events

I hosted a programming mystery event. The event centered around solving the case of Monsignor Shea’s stolen diamond cross. Participants had to use programming, scripting, and investigation skills to track down the culprit through three levels of challenges. For mor info click here.

Event where students had a week to make a game. 5 teams entered and two of the five teams managed to get a functioning game working. For mor info click here.

An event ran by my friend and I where we made a poker game in python. Then all the attendants made their own bots to try to win the event. For mor info click here.

I served as a Catholic Studies Student Leader for one year, where I helped organize a variety of events, including a weekly community dinner open to all students and a monthly philosophical discussion. In addition to running multiple events, I participated in weekly formation meetings focused on leadership development. During my time in the program, I studied The Advantage: Why Organizational Health Trumps Everything Else in Business , which strengthened my understanding of effective leadership.

I'm Conrad Mercer, a passionate computer science student at the University of Mary with a love of learning with an interest on how computers work at their fundamental level. I focus on embedded programming and low-level systems. I have technical experience in both low and high level programming. I built software for a TCU (transmission control unit) at Bobcat, and worked on automation jobs at Capital Credit Union.
